Abstract
The low coverage of Intrauterine Device (IUD) use in Pamekasan Regency, particularly within the working area of Galis Public Health Center, poses a significant challenge in preventing unintended pregnancies. This issue is influenced by limited knowledge, the spread of misinformation, and restricted access to long-acting contraceptive services. This community service initiative aimed to increase IUD acceptance by empowering health cadres and educating Women of Reproductive Age (WRA). The intervention consisted of health education sessions for cadres, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to identify barriers and potential solutions, and free IUD insertion services by trained healthcare professionals. A total of 63 cadres from 10 villages actively participated in the program. Post-test results indicated that 89.5% of participants answered at least 8 out of 10 questions correctly, demonstrating a significant improvement in knowledge. FGDs revealed key barriers to IUD uptake, including fear, stigma, lack of education, and limited partner support. Proposed solutions included expanding community outreach, involving local leaders or influencers, and integrating reproductive health education into school curricula. Of the 5 WRA who registered for the free IUD service, 4 successfully underwent the procedure without complications. This initiative highlights that a combined approach involving education, community-based participatory strategies, and accessible clinical services can effectively enhance knowledge and acceptance of IUDs.
