Main Article Content
Abstract
The cosmetics industry has experienced rapid growth, including in Indonesia, with a significant increase in the use of cosmetics across various age groups, including children and the elderly. However, this rise has also raised concerns regarding the safety of cosmetic products, given the prevalence of illegal products containing harmful substances such as Rhodamine B, hydroquinone, and mercury, as identified by BPOM. This study aims to evaluate the level of knowledge among female students at the MA Muslimat NU in Palangkaraya regarding the use of safe cosmetic products. The research method employed is descriptive quantitative, utilising a survey through questionnaires distributed to the students. The research sample comprises female students from the MA Muslimat NU in Palangkaraya, selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis in this study was conducted using percentage analysis techniques to determine the students' level of knowledge. The results indicate that the majority of students possess a good understanding of the importance of selecting and using safe cosmetic products, with 79% of respondents aware of the side effects of using hazardous chemicals. While the understanding of the dangers posed by harmful chemicals in cosmetics is quite high, despite the generally good knowledge, there is still a lack of understanding among students regarding the limits on the use of hazardous substances in cosmetics. In conclusion, although the students' knowledge about safe cosmetics is commendable, further education is necessary to enhance their awareness and comprehensive understanding.
