Main Article Content
Abstract
Postpartum depression is often poorly understood by pregnant women, including its symptoms, risks, and impacts. Social stigma surrounding mental health exacerbates delays in detection and treatment. Healthcare services tend to focus on the physical aspects of pregnancy, while psychological aspects are often overlooked. However, social support from family, partners, and the community is crucial for maternal mental health. A lack of such support can increase the risk of postpartum depression, potentially affecting the baby's development. Therefore, education and early detection are essential in community outreach programs. This program included lectures, pre- and post-tests, the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale, and discussions. It was conducted at the Posyandu in Cikeruh Village on December 9, 2024, targeting pregnant women and health cadres. The results showed an increased understanding among pregnant women about the importance of mental health during and after pregnancy. The Zung test proved effective in detecting the risk of depression early, thus supporting the well-being of both mother and baby. Education about postpartum depression successfully enhanced participants' knowledge of its symptoms, risks, and prevention, while also emphasizing the importance of family support. Early detection and community education are strategic steps to reduce the risk of postpartum depression, safeguard maternal and infant well-being, and raise awareness of mental health.
