Abstract

Sheep and goat husbandry has constituted an integral component of community life and represents an alternative source of income for a segment of the population in Mulyaharja Urban Village, Bogor City, West Java. Nevertheless, insufficient knowledge among smallholder farmers regarding livestock health management remains the foremost constraint to advancing productive and sustainable animal husbandry. A considerable number of farmers demonstrate limited understanding of livestock diseases, preventive and curative interventions, and the appropriate formulation of feed and nutritional supplementation. The program was initiated through a series of activities, including group discussions, clinical examinations of livestock, and the administration of anthelmintic treatment. Findings from the discussions and health assessments indicated a high prevalence of reproductive health disorders, coupled with inadequate dietary protein and mineral intake for sheep and goats among the participating farmers. Reproductive health impairments in livestock are commonly associated with insufficient mineral intake. A total of 15 farmers participated in this program, which demonstrably improved participants' understanding of livestock health management, with particular emphasis on animal nutrition and the acquisition of practical competencies in mineral block preparation.
