Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls remains a public health problem that may increase the risk of intergenerational stunting, particularly in indigenous communities with limited access to health information and services. Preventive efforts during adolescence through culturally appropriate promotive and preventive approaches are therefore essential. This community service activity aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge of anemia and stunting and to conduct early anemia detection among adolescent girls in the Baduy community. The methods included health education delivered through culturally adapted counseling, anemia screening using capillary blood hemoglobin measurement, iron supplementation, and evaluation of participants’ knowledge before and after the intervention. The activity involved 39 adolescent girls aged 10–19 years. The results showed that prior to the intervention, most participants had a moderate level of knowledge and a high prevalence of anemia. Following health education, the proportion of participants with a good level of knowledge increased, while the proportion with a poor level decreased. These findings indicate that health education combined with anemia screening can enhance adolescents’ understanding of anemia and stunting. In conclusion, this community service activity contributes to increasing awareness and knowledge of anemia among adolescent girls as a risk factor for stunting and may support early stunting prevention efforts in indigenous communities.
