Abstract

The qurban program has a social dimension that can be developed into a form of community service grounded in Islamic philanthropy. Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara conducts an annual qurban program that involves the academic community, the organizing committee, volunteers, partners, and beneficiary communities. This activity aimed to descriptively evaluate the governance of campus-based qurban distribution and identify the forms of social collaboration observed during its implementation. The community development approach served as the framework for program implementation, while the evaluation was based on field observation, activity documentation, and administrative records of the organizing committee without conducting surveys or interviews with beneficiaries. The analysis focused on program implementation, distribution coverage, coupon verification, division of responsibilities, distribution flow, operational constraints, and institutional learning. During Eid al-Adha 1447 H/2026, a total of 66 sacrificial animals were recorded, including 40 animals slaughtered at the main campus and 26 allocated to other locations, including UMSU-assisted disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost areas. At the main location, 3,605 coupon recipients were recorded. The findings indicate that the division of responsibilities, separation of processing areas, coupon-based distribution, and recipient verification supported the control of the distribution process. The involvement of university leaders, the academic community, committee members, volunteers, and partners also demonstrates observable institutional and social collaboration. However, changes in social solidarity and beneficiaries' perceptions were not directly measured; the findings should not be interpreted as causal evidence of increased social solidarity. The program provides a basis for developing a systematic, documented, and accountable model of campus-based qurban governance.
