Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) is an important staple of the university's internal curriculum that accommodates higher education principles through teaching, research, and community service. UGM's focus on community service is reflected in its participation in Kulon Progo Regency to explore agricultural potential and design the concept of a "Smart Eco Village" as a concrete effort to advance sustainable solutions. Therefore, the KKN UGM 2023 Karangasem sub-unit team has a dual goal of reducing household waste and improving welfare through the unique Refillife program, which uses the concept of "Share in Jar". In Karangasem Padukuhan, the Refillife program is an initiative effort of the UGM SCS-CEL team that provides cleaning materials in the form of dish soap, laundry detergent, and floor cleaning liquid through the refill method. Through the stages of observation, socialization, and implementation, this program is integrated into the community with two service systems: door-to-door and checkpoint. As a result, the Refillife program succeeded in reducing plastic waste by 500 pcs per month by involving 30 mothers, expanding to 60 people, and offering 3 types of refillable soap products. The significant reduction in plastic waste also raises awareness and promotes sustainable plastic use, contributing to reduced environmental pollution. The Refillife program in Karangasem Hamlet has successfully created a positive impact by reducing household waste, improving spending efficiency, and empowering the local community.
