Pendampingan Masyarakat dalam Pengelolaan Limbah Pertanian Menuju Mandiri Sampah di Desa Tulungrejo Kota Batu Community Assistance in Agricultural Waste Management Towards Waste Independence in Tulungrejo Village, Batu City

Abstract

This community service program aims to reduce waste and create a self-sufficient waste management village with the help of Adidaya Initiative, an experienced non-governmental organization. Through this collaboration, the community will gain access to proper waste management technologies and training on sustainable waste management practices. The introduction of waste shredders and craft-making methods is expected to reduce agricultural waste while empowering the community to protect the environment. The result of this program is that the composting training held by Brawijaya University in 2023 in Tulungrejo Village attracted the community's attention, especially after the closure of the local landfill. The goal of the training is to reduce household waste by converting it into compost, which can be used as fertilizer. Out of 30 participants, 22 applied composting at the household level, and 16 participants successfully implemented the technique, although some faced challenges. The community utilizes various types of waste, averaging 0.5–1 kg per household per day, supported by tools such as compost bags and shredding machines. Some participants have successfully sold compost, providing job opportunities and increasing income. Technological innovations, such as efficient shredding machines, and the use of kokedama as an environmentally friendly planting medium, further strengthen the sustainable lifestyle. This program successfully increased community participation in waste management, with 30 participants, mostly homemakers, actively engaging in discussions and practice. The training not only enriched knowledge but also encouraged participants to share their expertise, creating a widespread positive impact and empowering the community sustainably.
