Pemberdayaan Kelompok Wanita Tani Sinar Melati melalui Diversifikasi Olahan Rimpang Jahe Berbasis Potensi Lokal Empowerment of the "Sinar Melati" Women Farmers Group Through the Diversification of Local Potential-Based Ginger-Processed Products
Main Article Content
Abstract
The use of ginger rhizomes at the community level is still largely limited to cooking spices and traditional beverages, resulting in suboptimal economic value. The Women Farmers Group (KWT) Sinar Melati in Jatingarang Village, Weru District, Sukoharjo Regency, has the potential to develop processed ginger products that can support local resource-based women's economic empowerment. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of KWT members in diversifying processed ginger by producing ready-to-brew ginger sugar as a value-added product. The activity was held on May 19, 2026, and involved 32 members of KWT Sinar Melati, 12 lecturers and educational staff, as well as students from the D3 Pharmacy Study Program at Universitas Sebelas Maret. The implementation methods included preparation stages, interactive lectures and demonstrations, hands-on practice in ginger sugar making, and post-activity assistance for evaluation. The ginger sugar formula uses local ingredients, such as ginger, palm sugar, granulated sugar, lemongrass, and pandan leaves, resulting in a distinctive flavor that is easily replicated with simple household equipment. The results showed that participants attended the activity enthusiastically, actively engaged in discussions, and practiced ginger sugar production independently. In addition to improving agricultural processing skills, this activity encouraged business development plans through the processing of Home Industry Product permits. Thus, the diversification of locally produced, potential-based processed ginger rhizomes contributes to increasing the added value of agricultural commodities while sustainably strengthening the economic independence of KWT Sinar Melati members.
