Abstract
Liver damage parameters can be identified from changes in the activity of blood enzymes by observing substances in the blood produced by liver cells, such as Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT). In SGOT examinations, delays in the examination can affect the results. As in Good Laboratory Practice, SGOT activity will decrease by 10% in storage for >3 days at 4 °C. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of delay time on Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) examinations in serum samples stored at 2-8 °C. This study was conducted using an experimental method on 17 randomly selected samples. The SGOT examination was carried out using the IFCC (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry) method using a BTS 350 photometer. The average results of the Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) examination in serum with variations of 0 days (immediately), 3 days, and 7 days were 18.1 U/L, 17.7 U/L, and 17.1 U/L, respectively. Based on the one-way ANOVA test, the significance value was 0.547 (>0.05). This indicates that there is no effect of delay time on the results of the SGOT examination.
